Surely not as "wife" of Alain "Dapifer" fitz Flaald, Seneschal of Dol born 50 years later? Also, women are not Viscounts?

No, women are not Viscounts... a Viscount is a masculine lower nobility title... the feminine of a viscount is a viscountess. A Viscountess was more likely than not (though not always) the title given to a woman upon her marriage to a Viscount... further, A viscount is immediately below an Earl (Earls were charged with the collection of taxes). Viscounts were originally administrators and judges who ruled over specific regions of a county, hence the name. There is one level lower than a Viscount, and that, is a Baron. Viscounts are most often the great-grandchildren (or great-great grandchildren) of Dukes...with a Duke being the son of the monarch.
