Hi there. I am new to geni. would love to do more research on my great grandparents the Finkelsteins of Bukowsko, Poland in the Sanok region. would someone be able to point me in the right direction? thank you so much.

Have you looked on JRI Poland for records??

Malka Mysels Seth Morgulas (Geni Curator) Randy Schoenberg One of them might be able to help.

I work more in the Suwalki, Lomza, and Trakai areas (more Lithuania and Polish towns bordering Lithuania). I assume that you have looked on Jewish Gen? I can help you with that if you have not done that yet.

Also of course those who work the most on Galicia from Gesher Galicia.

That's Tanya's material Malka, I assume :)

I saw it also.

I think that in terms of her question, it might only be answered if Geni has members from that town, perhaps who she has not yet found on other sites.

Tanya What a beautiful, powerful and moving article in the Ukrainian paper about your family!

TORAH AND CHURCHES OF LEMKIVSHCHYNA:

thank you all. I have looked everywhere but have found no trace of my beautiful great grandparents family from Bukowsko, Poland. They had 6 children as far as I know. 3 disappeared I am assuming to Belzec where there are no records. their names were Lifsha, Dovid, Menachem Mendel. Family lore has it that they were put in an orphanage somewhere in bukowsko as children because both of my great grandparents, Tune Finkelstein-weigler (who I am named after and Moshe Meir Finkelstein who was the shochet of Bukowsko had died. Do any of you know of any orphanage that was there at the time? sorry I am not very good at research. I have ADD and my concentration is just awful.

Malka Mysels thank you for your kind words. They mean a lot to me.

Oh I should add that the other 3 children were my grandmother esther who survived by hiding in belgium. (my grandparents moved from bukowsko to belgium because they could not make a living in bukowsko. I actually just had a ceremony at yad vashem for the people who hid my mom, who was born in belgium if you are interested to see it.
Then, another brother of my grandmother Mordche Beirish Finkelstein was also in belgium and transferred to madjanek on march 6 1943. where he disappeared. and one more brother jack who changed his name to fink and lived in milwaukee.
thank you for caring, and thanks for reading this.

Tanya

If you create a profile for Angel Larose and Marguerite you can add them to our Heroes of the Holocaust Project.

Project. http://www.geni.com/projects/Heroes-of-the-Holocaust-The-Courageous... and perhaps others under the Umbrella Project: http://www.geni.com/projects/Holocaust-The-Final-Solution/10996

Tanya,
I assume you have looked at the Yad vaShem database. That's how I found relatives of my maternal grandfather, who came from Zarszyn (near Sanok). You may also want to contact Phyllis Kramer, who has posted a great deal about nearby communities on Jewish.gen.
If I come across any of your relatives in my research, I will contact you.
