Henry migrated to America as a young boy about 15 years of age in 1638. Some historical records suggest that Henry Bristol was a "stowaway" when he voyaged across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in New Haven, Connecticut. Henry's brother, Richard, also migrated to America. Richard settled in Guilford, Connecticut.
Henry took the freeman's oath at about 21 years of age in March 1646/47. At this time he belonged to Reverend Davenport's congregation.
In the New Haven Colony, Henry, when he was about 30 years of age was appointed "packer of flesh" on May 19, 1656. When he was abut 38 years of age in 1663, he was appointed "fence viewer." During his lifetime, Henry was a cooper (basket maker), meat packer and farmer.
Henry Bristol's home lot was located on the corner of Elm and Temple Street, where New Haven's Public Library is located today. Bristol family members resided at this location until Mary Bliss Bristol sold the property to the city of New Haven.
