PS calling a person a name such as troll is not nice.

Judith, you wrote, "The problem is, that info gets put in and someone comes along and re writes it or completely changes it."

We currently have somebody doing that to various Scarburgh profiles, rewriting them into what he wants them to be regardless of historical accuracy or even common sense.

"Troll" isn't what I'd call somebody like that. "Vandal" is. Unfortunately, only Curators have the option to report somebody for "Vandalism" - all that anyone else can do is holler about it and try to undo the damage/get it undone if possible. (Which does not prevent the person from going back and messing around some more!)

Troll was a name someone called someone else back in the discussion had nothing to do with vandals. That was a different comment. I have said this before. I have no intress in adding info as everyone ism adding info to historical profiles, so why bother( that's in my case)

lets move on.. I don't know who caused the trouble or what discussion it was in.

Maven, et. al.

If a profile is -- or a set of profiles are -- consistently be 'vandalized', then ask to have it made into a Master Profile (MP) with fields locked. The locked fields should be supported by Source documents or (if no consistency in 'sources') by some sort of "agreement" as documented in a profile-specific Discussion under that profile.

Ideally, in some distant future, all profiles would become set as a MP anyway; using that designation to prevent 'messing with' is quite appropriate.

This tree has merge issues which I am unable to resolve: http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000031850153836#600000000...

Can you please help... the person other person who is a manager hasn't been online since Aug 2014.

Thank you

dan I agree and disagree about this mp thing and it's useage but here is not the place for that discussion

It's more complicated than that, Dan.

Private User - Please Bjørn, do you know if an instruction for Geni is available in Danish?
Or do I have to make one by myself for internal use?
Members of my familygroup have problems in using Geni.

Our new Danish curator, Anette Guldager Boye is working on setting up at least a project for Danish users where you can ask for help and discuss in your own language and If you want to help her adding more introductions there, please join this group and also ask other danes to join:

http://www.geni.com/projects/Introduktion-til-Geni-for-danske-bruge...

I want to make the "Intro for danish users" also in english, so that people that is not speaking any scandinavian language can follow as well. I just haven't had the time to set it up yet.

Mange tak for jeres svar :)

I have a cousin, who uses Hotmail in here. But this mail doesn't exist anymore, does it?
- She wants to access our tree again, but cannot remember how.
I'm able to edit her profile, but not her e-mail address.
- If I get a new e-mail from her, will a curator be able to solve this problem?

OK - thanks Erica.

Done

Private User
Really looks like a mess now..

I took a quick look, and it's a little better. If you resolve these two children:
Jonas Efraim Cauveren
Salomon Cauveren
... then it may be a bit clearer.

... but the parents of that one Joseph still need to be "re-found".

resolved. thanks

Private User - Hotmail still exists - I still have a hotmail e-mail account as one of the accounts I use.

OK Lois - but I have had the understanding that Hotmail was phased out in different countries. And replaced by an Outlook account from Microsoft.

But I'll ask my cousin if she is able to access Hotmail.
Because if so she'll be able to try "forgot your login" to access a new login.

A couple of weeks ago I had to post a mail to a Hotmail in Argentina. It was returned back with the notice no access to the server. I tried then to put .ar behind .com.
This mail was not returned as undelivered. But I haven't heard a word from the receiver.
---

Maybe Geni should be aware of the phasing out of Hotmail.

Hotmail is banned on many sites because it is usually spammers that use hotmail accounts.

Is it kosher for a curator to edit one of the profiles you manage without your asking for help?

Private User Yes it is. When we merge two profiles, one of them may be managed by you, the merged profile inherits data from both profiles, like missing dates or locations. So in effect your managed profile has changed. Another option is when there is an obvious mistake, like a date 1/1/56 instead of 1/1/1956. Geni marks such mistakes with a yellow question mark.

This was not merged. This was changing the names and adding a picture.

Isn't it obnoxious to modify a profile I added without even asking?

Maybe some other relative entered the same person into MyHeritage and the profile in Geni was connected to the MH profile? If there was a picture in the MH profile it is only beneficial to the Geni profile to add that picture.
I don't know which profile you are talking about so I am only guessing.
