Could someone please reverse the merge done in 2015 as the profiles had 2 very different parents
@Angus Wood-Salomon I will what ever this is "mess" is it is infecting the greater portion of my tree a and its frustrating to work with especially since I am trying to clean-up and match my personal file on my computer with GENI - making sure names match to what is on GENI By way which I started in paper form in 1976 & in 1985/6 started entering it into Everton's computer genealogy program - switching to PAF in about 1995 it took 10 years to enter all I had with a 3 year hiatus - so I do not want to loose my "sourcing" from books etc. I got via snail-mail through NGS & NEGHS; mail correspondence with log deceased distant cousins I won't give up and will succeed somehow
Could a currator please help me with
Francis (Byrnes) Byrne, Convict "Guildford" 1816
I am not able to change his children's birth order - I have added child 1, child 2 etc into their names (as there a lot of duplicates plus extra children).
Separately there are 4 children who are not this couple's children. I have added notes on Francis record. These appear to have been added based on DNA tests however one child is born 15 years after they died and another was born half a world away. My guess is that they are probably related to Francis father/brother or cousins rather than Francis.
Ideally they should be removed from this couple. I have messaged the profile manager of these records.
Thanks
Leanne
I'm unclear on the concept. My home computer tree (Reunion for Mac) has 5,000 people. Many of them are "off the rails" in the sense that it includes people who are my relatives and linked people who are not. (Like a cousin of mine married someone and their ex's family is in my tree). Most of these people are on my Ancestry and my myHeritage (Pro) accounts.
I came to Geni in the hope of finding more prople, hopefully real relatives and to hook into the master tree.
I am put off by two things. Entering email addresses from relatives and manual entry. I see a Chrome extension but have not figured out how to use it!
I now have 20 people manually entered. My gut says to kill my membership but I'm hoping there is a better way to move forward. I am temporarily disabled and cannot spend lots of time on this.
Any suggestions on next steps? TIA
Hi Paul, welcome to GENI.
I have only recently joined GENI and have lots of data in my home family tree (18000 people). I haven't had to key all of those into GENI as I managed to locate some who were already in GENI so I could just link to them rather than recreate everything.
Do a search (menu option under Research) with just the surnames of some of your most common names and see if some of them are already in GENI. Then find your closest relative and add people in until you can merge your GENI tree with theirs.
With regard to email addresses I haven't currently added them in as most of my family leave the genealogy up to me. I only put in those who I thought would be interested in entering/updating data.
Good luck
Leanne
Paul Dennis Blumstein - when Geni finds SmartMatches, use https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783 - to copy the family records.
The SmatMatchi is very slow lately, so from the Profile page, click on: Research this person. This will provide a MyHeritage page with possible matches - hopefully finding your names, as well as others. Enter names of your Parents with 1 of the dates. Over time, Geni will find their SM's and you can copy the rest of the info, as well as siblings, etc.
ps. refresh page periodically & expand the tree for different people (green oval +) - to increase the chances of Geni finding MH matches.
Hope this helps
Paul Blumstein, I forgot to mention
- when doing searches use the filters on the left to restrict it to Deceased, so that you can narrow down the number of records that come back, as you won't be able to see living peoples details
- if you find your family, ask the profile managers to collaborate with you as it is easier to update records over time
- Have a look at the projects (and join any that match) as you may find some that directly relate to your family and their profile might already be in the project making it easier for you to find them
- if in your searches you find someone as private/living you can ask a curator to mark their profile deceased. (use zombie discussion for this)
- You can use the About Me section to add notes about the person
GENI is a different platform than most of us newbies are used to, the information is shared between family members and anyone interested, rather than being owned by one person but it is amazing what we can achieve when we all work together.
Have fun

Could a curator please advise
This profile Sir Edward Macarthur is managed by his father (who died in mid the 1800's).
I assume that means his father is a claimed historical figure but I can't work out how to report it.
This two profiles, Ingemar Jens Johansson
Ingemar Jens Johansson are the same, and since I'm a believer of the idea, one historical person=one profile, they should be merged into one.
How the rest of the other profile are connected, I can't tell, because they are set to private, maybe a curator can see if there are any other duplicates in that line and merge them in the process as well?
Is anyone available to override the MP status (which is presumably why it won't tive me the option to merge them at the moment) to these two and merge them properly, please?
Private User has given the go-ahead in a message after I'd explained my recent research, but she will probably be asleep at the moment.
Elizabeth Castell
and
Elizabeth Castell
There is definitely only one of them and Anne Wodehouse is the mother. (I tried moving the Castell one earlier, which is why she currently has 2 mothers!)
Could a curator please assist with merging these profiles as one of them is abandoned
