There is so much information about the Peden (or Pethein) family online and many have the same first name. There are two dates of death for Andrew Hugh Peden, the father of Alexander Peden, the Prophet. The book by Henry Peden in 1984, indicates a date of death in 1648 and that he was killed on orders from Claverhouse and shot on the banks of St. Mary's Loch. However, John Claverhouse did not police the areas of southwest Scotland until the religous unrest of the 1670's and 1680's. Later entries and genealogy websites have Andrew Hugh Peden's date of death as circa 1660 with no mention of martyrdom. This website mentions both the 1660 date and the killing by Claverhouse, which is in contradiction. Can anyone clarify this? It seems that if the Prophet's father had been a martyr as well, there would be mention of it as a source of his motivation in all of the historical references and writings about Alexander, the Prophet.
