Does anyone know if R. Wunder's book "Elef Margaliot" was ever translated into English? My search of Worldcat and similar databeses suggests no but not sure. The book is now out of print even in Hebrew and so far I have not found a copy outside of libraries by searching ABAA and the like. If anyone has come across it recently or has a copy they no longer want please let me know.

Seth Morgulas (Geni Curator) I wonder if perhaps someone has a copy of the Hebrew version that you could consult and collaborate with?

I don't believe so. I have it in Hebrew but after skimming it, I saw that it didn't immediately link to my family and was going to be tough to get through.

I can certainly look something up for you, if you need.

And I only bought the Hebrew version a couple of years ago so don't think it's out of print.

Hatte, thanks, I haven't had much luck finding it and I am a collector of rare books, though not Jewish ones, so I am usually pretty good at finding books but So far no luck. in the meantime, yes, if you wouldn't mind, I found a footnote in another book that I believe is a reference to Menachem Mendel Stangen-Margolioth the citation is to 12-16 no.16 I am curious what it says about him. In particular, I am trying to figure out where the Stangens came from (I know Menacham was born in Germany but is the family from Frankfurt? Worms? Wertheim? etc.) There has been some speculation that they descended from Eleazar Rokeach of Worms but there are a lot of generations missing. The surname, I believe does appear in the general Frankfurt area.

It's a very new book so I assume a new (Israeli) edition. I'm not at home but can check the publisher when I get home. I'll definitely check for you the reference but you may have to remind me because I am on vacation.

Here, his father Yoel Faivish (later of Prague) is listed as Yoel Faivish Stangen Margaliot Gülich (Jülich) WSW of Köln

I wonder if Rabbi Wunder sheds any light on this?

Thanks Hatta! No rush. He's waited 350 years and I don't think he is going anywhere.

Sorry typo thanks Hatte

That last reference was prepared by Michael Honey so I suspect it is pretty reliable but I can't tell what the source is for that particular reference in the notes section.

Here is a link to the full book in Hebrew on the web. It can be printed !http://www.otzar.org/wotzar/book.aspx?105732

Great! Thank you Judith Goldberg.

Dear Researchers,

I have seen several references to Zevulun Eliezer Heilprin bca1520 being described in R’ Meir Wunder's book Elef Margaliot as being a descendant of Yitzchak of Dampierre AKA the R"I (ca. 1120 - 1200).

For several months now I have been searching for the tree described by R’ Wunder and asking scholars. So far I have not been able to obtain the details from Elef Margaliot and since I cannot read Hebrew I am at a loss.

The URL provided by Judith Goldberg above has a search box which I cannot use since I do not write or speak Hebrew, but I believe could be used to locate the place in the book where ZE Heilprin's ancestry is discussed and delineated. Could I ask someone to run this search and then copy and paste the relevant sections? I can then seek a translation on my own.

Thanks,
Adam Cherson

Shlomo Flam,
Private User are familiar with the Rokeach Stangen branch and might be able to help you look into this further.

Seth Morgulas (Geni Curator) and I co-administer a Margolis surname project on FTDNA. Not surprisingly, there are many different Y-DNA haplogroups in the project.

While my family is a rabbinical Margolis family, I'm certain we are not related to the family in Meir Wunder's book, although I own the book and look forward to discussions about its contents.
