Is this true ?
The name in Hebrew is :
הרל"פ : חייה ראש לגלות פולין
האם מקורם מגלות בבל? והאם יש אמת בייחוסם למשפחת דוד המלך ?
תודה ושבת שלום
Thank you and Shabat Shalom

That's what the Hebrew Wikipedia says

Having read this: "... Arthur Menton, scholar and author of the monumental two-volume historical and genealogical study The Book of Destiny, Toledot Charlap - תולדות חרלפ and Ancilla to Toledot Charlap. A copy of Volume 1, containing the Charlap narrative, can be purchased online from "Amazon.com..." I bought the book and can recommend it as interesting to genealogists, especially Jewish genealogists.

Dear Hatte Blejer,

According to your book, where does the Origin of the Charlap begin ?

Is P (at the end of the name) symbol for Polland or Portugal ?

Blessings 🙏🏼

Thank you dear Randy & Rafi.

Private User -- I'll take a look. You should contact Adam Brown, who is a curator on Geni and who I believe is responsible for the Charlap projects above also.

You can copy and paste the hyperlinked (blue) names from previous posts too.

Unless you follow the person and your list of followed is not too long, it's hard to get the @ to find the person you want to tag.

Thank you do much dear Hatte Rubenstein Blejer

Thank you so much dear Hatte Rubenstein Blejer

Dear Janet,
Primary it was Portugal and later transformed into Poland.

Seems strange to me. in Hebrew it's Charlap חרל"פ and not Harlap.
So Haya Rosh Legalut Pollin (or Portugal) - doesn't fit.

In Hebrew letters it definitely fits :
חרל״פ = חייה ראש לגלות פולין או פורטוגל.

Dear Andrew,
Private User
Thank you.
You mean they moved to Polland at the time of Spain Inquisition ?

The family located to Italy and Ottoman Empire. In 16th century the family members as traders, winemakers travelled to Poland until the founder who took the acronym stayed there (early 1600s).

See the hebrew wikipedia article https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%A9%D7%A4%D7%97%D7%AA_%D7%97...
Harlap refers to Rav Hia who was their ancestor.

Thank you dear Mordechai
You are right Hia in Hebrew must be חייא.
The information in Hebrew in this link is very interesting. So the origin is Galut Babel.
Dear all,
My family left Baghdad on 1978 under Saddam Hussein Ba'th regime. It was so painful that our ancient rich Community of the Babylonian Jewry was scattered around the world, and Toda laEl that most of Iraqi origin Jews came to Israel (Shiva leTzion).
I got married intentionally to an Iraqi origin Tsabar born in Israel, wishing that my children would do the same, getting Iraqi origin spouses.
My daughter who was born and raised in Israel "happened" to get married to a Harlap of "Polish" origin. Then I was so happy to discover that Harlap family origin is from Babylonian Diaspora. So exciting and 'Am-Israel Hai 🇮🇱
Shabat Shalom 🙏🏼

We are all family :)

My ancestors are from areas where the Charlap lived. Suwalki, Lomza, and Trakai regions.

I have a close friend who is an Iraqi Jew. They left for Iran in 1948.

Toda dear Hatte.
Exactly we are all family.

Mazel tov, Janet! You can PM me and I'll look how your son-in-law fits to the main family tree. Thanks.
