Amazing reference!!!! Why are some names listed in tan, brown, purple and RED? During my search of the Grey's which lead to the MERCER line that The Rice's connect to I came across several names in RED that lead no where? The Last one being Edward Windsor? If it means royalty, then I get it...but the colors seem to signify something other than that and have not run across a guide for interpreting the colors.....DCR 1948

Although, I am not 100% with the color coding...
I believe, purple were the legitimate but not first in lines... red being the first in lines possibly.... brown being something to the gist of -ligitimate but, "non- ruling" lines and tan being the illigitimate or non- verifiable lines... but as, mentioned..... I´m just speculating, on the colors to their meanings... but it has something to do, with the Current Lineages of Ruling Families.

Two days ago I found the DNA trail to the Rice's from Jasper Tudor to Tacinda Tudor, to Jane GREY, to Jane Mercer......I say trail because of the Family Resemblences that are Doubleganger quality of which there are 6 alive and two dead in my immediate family....I don't yet know how Jane Mercer connects to Margaret Mercer wife of Thomas ap Rice 1570 father my Perrott ap Rice 1600 ancestor...No book, all GENI and lot's of RED names the last being Jane Grey to Edward Windsor....fyi

If you're looking at the colors in a Geni path between one profile & another, I don't think they have any significance or symbolism. They change when the links change such as to a marriage relationship instead of a blood line.

The gnarliest I've seen was 16 different colors used !

Erica, can you point to the Leiden records? I LOVE looking into those records. Increasingly, the record are scanned, but besides the scans the transcriptions easily go into the 16th century. I've taken a lot out of the scans, so if you have a challenge to throw, don't hesitate ;-)

Just as a point for Geneologists - it's the Grace Gascoigne connection that needs great care, I believe, as there were attempts to link her to a royalty line (a big hobby for fraudulent genealogists & unfortunately a cottage industry at one time in Mayflower passenger lines).

I nfind it interesting the different family unit you might be related in more than 1 way. Which I sont thank they found the direct route for me yet. Same with the royals I am related both to prince Chales and Dianna Spencer but the only use the route to Prince Charles and I belive I a closer cousin to Dianna.

Donna sometimes you can "walk the tree" in Geni, link by link, and help "teach" the relationship path algorithm to take that path.

I had a merge that brought in a 6th great grand father as a great uncle. I was freaking out that Geni lost my ancestry until I realized - no, there was a cousin marriage connection made. Which freaked me out.):)

But walking it a couple of times re established the more direct route easily. Don't skip any links and do it slowly.

There is a current research, translation & I hope digitizing initiative of records held in the Leyden archives, including for the period the Scrooby congregation was in residence there. Wonderful historical work that has already enriched our knowledge of their life & times. For instance, there may be evidence to suggest Francis Cooke was in fact Huguenot / Walloon as his wife has always been known to be.
