if Magog is estimated between 2565BCE and 2505BCE
- wouldn't you need at least 125 generations to get back that far ???
with the average age of say 35 - and, 2500+2000= approx 4500 years/35=128 .57 generations ???
4500/60=75 years average - women don't have babies at 75 years old

depends on different factors. According to sources, Methusela lived to be almost a millenia.

@Kristen. There is no proof one way or the other. But Why couldn't these people have existed? I don't mean the myths we have come to know. but people who were extraordinary for their time and situation. Look at what jesus supposedly did. Walked on water. People now use that as a phrase.

10/17/2013 at 11:28 AM

This Magog was an invention of medieval monks. They were doing genealogy, just as we are, with the best sources they had available. They believed the Irish had to be descended from Noah somehow. Wasn't everyone? So, they hit on Magog. Yeah, that must be it.

Today, we can see see where they went wrong. They miscalculated the number of generations required to get back that far. We can cut them some slack, I think. They didn't really know. They were just guessing, like some genealogists today ;)

We keep this profile on Geni, and others like it, for the historical interest -- this is what our ancestors believed. Irish Magog can make us smile, but none of us should take him seriously.

This is Magog, legendary ancestor of the Irish kings.
For the Biblical Magog, see Magog.

According to the Bible, one of Noah's grandsons was Magog / מגוג (Genesis 10:2; Chronicles 1:5).

Biblical scholars generally believe that Magog was intended to be the ancestor of the Scythians,
north of the Black Sea.

Two of Magog's sons were named in the 16th century Book of Jasher: Elichanaf / אליחורף and Lubal / לובב (Book of Jasher 7:4; ספר הישר - פרשת נח).

Irish legend gives Magog another four sons: Bathath, Faithechta, Jobbath, and Emoth.

According to the 11th century Lebor Gabála Érenn (Book of the Invasions of Ireland)
and the 17th century Annals of the Four Masters, these sons were the ancestors of the Irish kings.

These lines from the Irish kings back to Adam and Eve entered the genealogical mainstream
in the works of John O'Hart (1824-1902).

They now appear in thousands of Internet genealogies, but cannot be considered an authentic tradition.

Anyone with a line down from this Magog probably has dozens or even hundreds of different paths back to him. These lines will never stabilize on Geni. It's the nature of Geni that medieval lines are being added and corrected every day.
