Charles / Carolus Magnus / Karl der Große, Rex Francorum & Imperator Romanorum is your 34th great grandfather

Hello,

what is this discussion about?

If it is to state the relationship to Charlemagne, then OK - he is my 32nd great grandfather.

But, as far as I understand, the majority of Europeans can state the same when it comes to Charlemagne as an ancestor.

Kind regards,

Jan

Charlemagne is your 34th great grandfather.

You are directly related to Andy Williams through the Howard family then.

34th great grandfather. Wow. Keep up the good work, Aimee

@Charles/Carolus Magnus/Karl der Grobe,Rex Francorum is my 34 great grandfather Judy Rice

Before we have a few million Europeans & others posting here, you may want to look at these links re. Charlemagne and his relatives... ;)

I give you no chance it will stop now, nice tried ;-)

What an interesting fact, and a true one indeed!!

Thanks Jan H. W. Sundberg, I've added those to the articles I already had on his page: Charlemagne

All - see the longstanding Discussion: http://www.geni.com/discussions/100766?msg=761929 in many languages, if you want to log yourself as a grandkid of our Chuckie :-)

Interesting . i think the idea of doing genealogy is not just to see how far back you can go but it is more interesting to see what path you follow to get there and who these people were, what they did for a living , how they lived and how they died and who they met on the way. It's a story and stories take you anywhere and everywhere. It's a fascinating and sometimes horrifying journey or perhapes I should say adventure.

Well, I'm still waiting for having Charlemagne as my ancestor. :) I hope I will trace my roots back to him sometime!

Karol, with your name it cannot be otherwise :-)
To my mind, it is most likely that the genetic link is already there, the Geni world tree is just about trying to put the paper-trail in place to 'prove' it!

Judith, I agree - it's the journey as a story that fascinates me about history, especially family history. Karl Jung said "Dream the myth onwards' and I think that's an interesting comment on history too.

Charlemagne is your 32nd great grandfather.

I found my path to him many many years ago. Not via Loubris (my father's ) It's my mother's side. Parker and Taylor ete. Many many diferent names to finally get there!

Really interesting journey to our roots.
More than a research work to know about ancestors, Genealogy means a fascinating adventure which connects us to the past sharing lifes and stories through time.
Charlemagne is an special example about this.
Thanks to the 36th Great Grandfather for having this discussion!

News Flash:
"If you live in Asia or Africa or you ancestors are from Asia or Africa you are probably not a descendant of Charlemagne.
But if any of your ancestors are from Europe, especially Western Europe, then it's almost certain that Charlemagne is one of your ancestors."

It is not the fact that Charlemagne is my 34th great grandfather that is the exciting part. It is the path of characters that lead to him who are the people that I read about in school and studied over the years that make it exciting. it is history come alive on the page that I enjoy the most.

With the work and research Sharon Doubell started years ago on this genealogy...KUDOS to Sharon.. You folks should check it out! Hundreds of us are related through Charlemagne.and of course her majesty Queen Elizabeth and the new baby!

Thanks Private User - the work was a lot of people's, but the maintenance of a usable line depends on the project. It's good to be appreciated cousin.

i have seen that she has done much in here and good work too..

:-)

OKAY... I have a confession til make .... Charlemagne is also ancestor to somewhat 65-75% of the Icelandic population (Vikings or not). I descend from him through both my parents - many times ;) ... and am proud of it :)

Go Iceland!

(I find it pretty awesome to have Icelandic cousins)

Gottskalk "The Cruel" was a bishop at Holar in Iceland. Gottskalk was from Norway - I descend at least 29 times from Gottskalk through my parents. Gottskalk is a descendant from Charlemagne in four ways -... :)

Here is a link to Gottskalk:

Gottskalk “Grimmi” Nikulasson
