I would like to build out this family Rose "Mrs. B." Blumkin . A really nice woman, I met her at the store not too long before she died. I have entered everything I have found but there are not to many details. Nothing on Rootsweb, Family Search or Find a Grave. The news stories all say much the same thing. I would like to know where else I could look. I have no experience with Jewish genealogy.

Eilat Gordin Levitan and possibly Kevin Lawrence Hanit would be your best bets to help. Private User is actually in Belarus so might be of assistance.

I am no good with Minsk or other parts of Belarus except Grodno / Pruzhany areas where I do have family and where people moved back and forth between Trakai / Grodno in the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Eldon,

The first thing is that you forgot to enter the son, Louie.

Kevin

Eldon,

You need to use the available census documents to expand on her family.

Kevin

Eldon - typo in Display Name? - "Blumkin" not "Blumpkin"

On Family Search:
1920 Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MCVY-QDH
1930 Census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XQKH-L5F

I was typing while Kevin was creating the two entries above mine. Clearly, we were thinking along the same lines.

Found thru googling her name - (never overlook that great genealogical source, google):
NY Times obit with much more info on her family:
http://www.nytimes.com/1998/08/13/business/rose-blumkin-retail-quee...
Also this article, which states her father was a Rabbi - not definitive, but useful as a hint, along with other details on her life before USA:
http://www.nytimes.com/1998/08/13/business/rose-blumkin-retail-quee...

Lois,I had looked at that obit but since it seemed to be the same as all the others,I didn't go to the bottom. Thanks so much

As you see, the display name was correct.

There are some pictures at http://www.nfm.com/default.aspx?ntt=OurHistory

including a family picture at "1917 - Coming to America"

The store may have contact info for surviving family members.

The son Louis has since passed away - recently - there are many obituaries for him online including http://www.furnituretoday.com/article/560527-Friends_family_remembe... and http://www.jewishomaha.org/jewish-press/2013/louis-louie-blumkin and http://journalstar.com/business/local/louie-blumkin-son-of-rose-die...

From the additional family info in those and others you should be able to find living family members

A minor point on the display name and her husband's name as others have said, but Eldon said it was correct: where is the "p" coming from in the surname?

Eldon - you said nothing on Findagrave. See http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=67776295

The Hebrew inscription gives her parents' Hebrew names as Shlomo Yosef and Chasha. These match Solomon and Chasia.

Her husband: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=70913604

Isadore's Hebrew name was Yitzhak and his father's name was Lipman

Son Louie: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=105908571

More family info at http://books.google.com.au/books?id=dsvpsmmkMooC&pg=PA38&lp...

There is a lot you can build out from there on the Gorelick family.

David, I guess I should have been clearer. I was talking about Find a Grave for her parents. Also I do not read Hebrew.

More here eg Chasia was nee Kimmelman

Eldon,

Why does her profile say that she has 5,000 blood relatives?

Bentzion - that is because the profile was originally created as Eldon's sister - because you can't create a standalone tree. Then it was disconnected - but the count remains.

See Rose "Mrs. B." Blumkin - scroll to the bottom of the revisions.

--- on the Revisions tab on the profile.

Hello all,
The current family is no problem except we are dealing with living people. What we need to do is find ancestors beyond parents. This is the area where I have no experience and no idea where to look for Jewish records.

jewishgen.org is a great resource!

Eldon - if you want to connect to the Big Tree, going over, up, down, repeatedly is at least as good a bet to accomplish it. Also compiling enough info on her descendents and those of her siblings (and etc) to see if any of them have started a tree (or appear on one).

Year of Birth and Death - Plus Photo - of "Mrs. B"s daughter - Frances Batt http://www.roseblumkinjewishhome.com/buildingcampaign.aspx

Info on Frances Batt's son (inc. wife and child):
http://unoalumni.org/citation-batt

info on Simon Gorelick, and on Rebecca and Louis Friedman, and their son, Isadore "Ike" Friedman : http://books.google.com/books?id=dsvpsmmkMooC&pg=PA38&lpg=P...

"cutesy" format, but apparently accurate info on Isadore "Ike" Friedman
http://ariannamercer.weebly.com/isadoreikefriedman.html

Find-a-Grave for Isadore "Ike" Friedman plus links to graves of his wife and to grave of a child:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=58809138

The Isadore (Ike) son of Rebecca and Louis was born in 1924 as per http://books.google.com/books?id=dsvpsmmkMooC&pg=PA38&lpg=P...

The Ike at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=58809138 lived 1877-1942. Not the same person.

http://ariannamercer.weebly.com/isadoreikefriedman.html seems to confuse the two. The one who sold to Warren Buffett is not the one who died in 1942.

I believe I have found the family tree, but I can't seem to be able to get into the website.

See https://www.google.com/search?q=solomon+gorelick+kimmelman+site:ldo...

Father: GORELICK, Solomon Yoseyf
Mother: KIMMELMAN, Jesse (Khasha)

Those look to be Mrs B's parents.

Next breakthrough:

http://www.ldorvdor.net/phpgedview/CLAN/GORELIK-GORELICK/3014_Solom...

Rows 3 to 7 have Goreliks from Chederin being admitted to USA going to Omaha with next of kin in USA being a brother in law Kimelman from Chederin.

The 5 are Solomon and Chasse - these are Mrs B's parents - and Mussie, Salman and Motel.

They came through Ellis Island

They were father and mother with three children, and they were going to stay with Mrs B's brother Meyer Gorelik, at 240 Grace Street, Omaha

Private User - Nice finds. Plus - good noticing one of the references I found was clearly a strange patch-together of two different folks - which then resulted in my including Find-A-Grave from wrong folks. I like to think I would have caught it at some point if I was actively working on the Profiles, but as a quick let's see what I can find on these folks - didn't. So thanks!

Thanks Lois. There is more research to be done here - more input from others will be welcome.
