Hi All - On my sister-in-law's family tree, this person is HALL, not Hill. He is showing as her 15th great-grandfather, and the line goes directly down to her mother, maiden name Hall.

Is there any documentation to show this is Hill, nor Hall? Thanks, Sally in Ohio

Sally
There are three sources for documentation on Sir John Hill's profile, all three list his surname as Hill.
One lists SIR JOHN HILL (or HULLE), knight, of Hill's Court, St. Sidwell's Exeter.

Do you have any documentation that his name should be Hall?

Thanks for responding. There's a large history of the Hall family on line that traces this person back to the Halls of Wiltshire, Bradford-on-Avon, and John Hall, 1350-1408, is a prominent part of that tree. Also there are other Family Trees showing him as a Hall on Ancestry.com. All I have to go on is what comes up on Ancestry. com or the Internet. Sally

The Wikipedia Listing of all names to hold that position show him as Hill also. I'll check with my sister-in-law and niece to see if they have any documentation. If he isn't a Hall, we'll remove that line from the Hall tree. Thanks so much for the reply Sally
