I'm not sure i understand your data.
For example, are you saying that for your first generation of ancestors (ie "parents") you have 3 profiles?

That seems a little unusual.

Yes thats right, 2 parents and 1 son. So you can see that the total # includes all generations before.

OK, i was trying to work out how you had 7 grandparents. Makes sense now!

Quite an impressive tree.

I'm very interested in what my mother's side looks like, but don't have time to try to get statistics until July.

On my father's side, it's a lot sparser.

Hi Suzanne. You can just do the math yourself, for example lets say you have 2 parents then 4 grandparents, then 8 great grandparents and so on. I just looked on my tree and saw how many ancestors it showed for each time i added a generation.

Hi Matthew, I'm still trying to figure out how you got the number for each generation. I see from my home page that I have 37,675 ancestors. How do I isolate those by generation? If I do it from the tree, I get lost pretty quickly since it branches out exponentially.

Oops, I meant 56,419 ancestors but according to Geni, I'm connected to 62,972,838 people on Geni. I truly don't know what the latter number means. Your 7,546,445 number for ancestors is quite impressive!

Enrique Treat Gleason (Gleeson), Esq. the number 63 million represents the amount of profiles in the World Tree on Geni.
So your family tree must be connected to the giant maze of trees that have been built and connected by Geni users over the last ...decade(?).

Frankly i don't know where Matthew gets the number 7.5 million from as he would need at least 21 generations of ancestors identified accurately to achieve that number (no missing numbers, no double ups).

If he had achieved that he would have the most complete tree on Geni (that honour is currently held by Carl, Herzog von Württemberg (who is a Duke of somewhere in Austria) and has a complete family tree out to almost 12 generations.

The are numbers above are per generation, not a running total.

Matthew I think the number you are quoting from tree view would be total relatives shown in tree when you change the number of generations displayed.
That number includes uncles, cousins and cousins uncles (to name just a few) who are all family members but not actually ancestors.

Carl Herzog Von Wurtlemberg is my 15th cousing once removed

For comparision Queen Elizabeth II has 7,440 ancestors listed here on Geni.

She has 6 generations of ancestors completely identified on Geni (ie all of her 4x great grandparents) and then most of her tree out to 10th generation (ie her 8x great grandparents).

Where do you find all the ancestors that she has? on her site it show 5000

Hi Alex..you are cracking me up...I saw that you are an engineer...like my son in law...that explain why you are so technical...great.....I am not bragging, but I am amazed to see who I am related too...king, queens, Celine Dion, Madonna, some prime minister in Canada, and the list goes on...so this has been quite a ride...and a lot of fun....you can go to bed now....good nite...lol

Hi Suzanne, according to Geni, you are my 19th cousin once removed. Most of my ancestors from my fathers' s side come from Connecticut, they were amongst the first early American settlers. My relationship to the others involved in this discussion is as follows:

Matthew Cox is my 9th cousin once removed.
Hatte Anne Blejer is my 9th cousin twice removed.
Melton Bennett is my 12th cousin once removed.
Carl, Herzog von Württemberg is my 13th cousin twice removed.
Queen Elizabeth II is my 12th cousin once removed.

Alex, you cracked me up when I read the latest on the thread. I did the exact exponential calculations to see how many generations it would take to reach 7.5M ancestors.

Matthew- we are just giving you a hard time. You do have an impressive number of ancestors at 75K. My mother's side is much harder to document, so that explains my 38K in ancestors.

I'm glad you're enjoying the posts, however i am not giving Matthew "a hard time". I have already explained how Matthew cannot have 75,000 ancestors listed on Geni.

While he obviously has, genetically, had more than 75,000 ancestors if he had that many ancestors in his family tree he would be the most well documented person on Geni.

If i am incorrect in this statement i will happily delete all my posts in this thread and apologise to Matthew.
If I had to guess the 75,000 number he is referring to may be his Blood Relatives count, my own is at 41,000 without any royal connections so throw in a King or two and 75,000 would be quite reasonable.
Hard to know for sure tho, hopefully Matthew will respond the next time he logs in.
