Do we know that King Henry I of England, early in his reign, gave Framlingham to ROGER BIGOD who built the castle?
The first castle was dismantled by the command of Lomg Henry II. about 1175. (After Hugh Bigod had been involved in a rebellion against the King. It was Hugh's son Roger, second earl of Norfolk, who started to build the second castle in 1190 which exists now. There are a few remnants of the original castle.
